Google has updated its Gemini 2.5 Pro language model and added new features for developers. This version was planned to be presented at the I/O 2025 conference, but the company decided to release it earlier due to the hype.

Here's What We Know

The update is called Gemini 2.5 Pro (I/O Edition).

The model is now better at editing code, rewriting it, and creating complex instructions for AI agents. It has risen to the top of the WebDev Arena ranking, surpassing the previous leader by 147 points. In the LiveCodeBench test, the result increased from 70.4% to 75.6%, which means that the model is better at generating high-quality code.

Google also reports improved video understanding - the new version received 84.8% in the VideoMME test. In addition, AI now makes fewer mistakes when calling functions and more accurately determines when they should be launched.

The update is already available in the Gemini app and via APIs (Google AI Studio and Vertex AI). You do not need to install anything else - the old version will automatically update to the new one (05-06), and the price has not changed.

Google also hinted at new features that will be shown at I/O 2025, such as a personalised and smarter assistant based on Gemini.

On Android, a new Gemini widget with quick access to functions has appeared. It is designed in the Material You (Material 3) style and supports dynamic colouring according to the system theme. The widget appears in the Gemini app version 1.0.751104895 and is already available in the Play Store, or you can install it manually.
