Elexio is an all-new electric crossover developed specifically for the Chinese market under the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. It is the brand's first electric vehicle created in China. It has broken ties with the Ioniq series, receiving a new name and original design.

Here's What We Know

The novelty was presented at a special event in Shanghai. Although the technical specifications and dimensions of the car have not yet been revealed, it is known that the range exceeds 700 kilometres - probably on the optimistic Chinese CTLC cycle. Visually, the SUV looks more compact than the Ioniq 9 on sale in other countries.

A new design language sets the Elexio apart from other Hyundai models. The front is devoid of a grille, but has large air intakes and a thin LED strip under the headlights. In profile relief fenders and darkened rear pillars, visually passing into a spoiler, stand out. At the rear there are high horizontal lights, a large inscription with the brand name and graphic elements on the bumper.

The interior hasn't been shown yet, but Hyundai has announced an "intelligent interface" without physical buttons, a new digital dashboard and a Qualcomm SA8295-based multimedia entertainment system that supports the latest connectivity features. The Elexio will also get an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with partial autonomy features.

The electric vehicle is built on the E-GMP platform already used in Hyundai, Kia and Genesis global electric vehicles. Although the powertrain configuration is not specified, the architecture supports both single-engine and twin-engine versions.

Battery capacity also remains a secret, but support for fast charging has been confirmed: 30 to 80 per cent in 27 minutes. The unit itself is housed in a reinforced structure that meets modern crash safety requirements.

Production of the Elexio will be organised in China at the facilities of Beijing Hyundai. Sales on the local market will start in the coming months. Whether the model will go outside China is still unknown.
