Hideo Kojima explains how GTA 6 affects the releases of other games and confirms that Death Stranding 2 is still 95% complete
Even the legendary Hideo Kojima admits that the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 forces publishers to carefully plan their launch dates.
Here's What We Know
In a recent podcast, Kojima compared the impact of GTA 6 on the gaming industry to the effect of the premiere of the new film Mission Impossible: "If GTA had a November release, everyone else would just step aside. Just like studios don't risk releasing films next to big blockbusters." According to the developer, this works even harder in the world of video games, as players spend hundreds of hours to complete a hit like GTA 6.
However, such concerns did not become decisive for Death Stranding 2. Kojima stressed that the release date was set a long time ago, and although he personally considered September, the team decided not to postpone the launch - the game is 95% ready, only final improvements and minor bug fixes remain. All the main work - voice acting, motion capture, optimisation - has been completed, and now the project is at the polishing stage.
The choice of June for the release of Death Stranding 2 looks strategically favourable: the game will not fall under the autumn flurry of high-profile premieres and will have a chance to become the main event of the summer. Meanwhile, other publishers, according to Kojima, are literally "breathing a sigh of relief" after Rockstar finally announced the exact release date of GTA 6 - now everyone can plan their releases, avoiding the "epicentre of the explosion".
