Gears of War: Reloaded, a large-scale remaster of the cult shooter, will be available for the first time not only on Xbox but also on PlayStation 5 on 26 August. However, the news from European retailers was even more unexpected: physical copies of the game have been confirmed for PS5 and PC only, while the Xbox version seems to be a digital-only title.

Here's What We Know

Gears of War: Reloaded is a completely updated version of the original 2006 game created by The Coalition in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. The remaster will feature modern graphics with support for 4K, 60 FPS, HDR, VRR, and almost instant downloads. Reloaded includes the main campaign with an additional act, all DLC, multiplayer maps and modes, as well as local co-op for two and online battles for up to 8 players.

The game will be released on 26 August 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and will be available on Game Pass from day one. However, according to the Spanish retailer GAME, physical discs will be available only for PlayStation 5 and PC - there is no confirmation for Xbox yet. This has caused a wave of discussion among fans, as Xbox has always been the "home" of Gears of War, and Microsoft has been increasingly refusing to release physical editions even for its main franchises.

The reasons for this decision have not been officially announced, and it is possible that the situation may change closer to the release - especially in markets where Xbox is more popular. However, for now, it looks like another step towards digital distribution by Microsoft, even if it means that Xbox fans will be left without a collector's disc in their favourite series.
