Pocketpair has officially confirmed that some of the updates to Palworld were made as a result of legal disputes with Nintendo related to alleged patent infringement. According to IGN, the studio released a statement saying that patch 0.3.11, released in November 2024, which changed the mechanics of calling Pals - they now accompany the player statically - was a direct result of these lawsuits.

Here's What We Know

In a statement, the company explained that they deny the allegations and consider the patents cited by Nintendo to be invalid. However, to avoid blocking the development of the game, Pocketpair made compromises. They acknowledged that this decision was disappointing for both the team and the players, but called it a forced and less harmful option.

Another similar update is expected - patch 0.5.5, which will change gliding: instead of using Pals to fly, players will use a separate glider. At the same time, Pals will remain a source of passive bonuses.

Despite the legal difficulties, Pocketpair assured that it will continue to develop Palworld and improve the content. The game has already gathered more than 32 million players, and in 2025, new Pals, technologies, and storyline expansions around the World Tree are being prepared.
