The Polish Ministry of Defence and the Polish defence company Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) have signed an agreement for the production of 1,400 Borsuk tracked infantry fighting vehicles. Of these, 1,014 units will be infantry fighting vehicles, and the rest will be produced in specialised versions to perform various operational tasks.

Here's What We Know

The large-scale purchase of Borsuk tracked armoured vehicles is a continuation of a contract signed in March 2025 worth PLN 6.5 billion (approximately EUR 1.5 billion), under which the company was to supply 111 BMPs to the Polish Armed Forces.

The Borsuk was developed by HSW in partnership with the Polish Armoury Group (PGZ) and is equipped with the ZSSW-30 remote-controlled turret. It is armed with a 30mm Bushmaster II automatic cannon and Spike-LR anti-tank guided missiles. The amphibious capabilities of this vehicle allow it to cross water obstacles without additional training, which is critical for the Polish terrain.

"The Borsuk has a modular design that allows it to be adapted to various tasks, including as a command and control vehicle, medical evacuation, reconnaissance and engineering troops.

The deal was made possible by Poland's record-breaking defence budget for 2025, which is 186.6 billion zlotys (approximately €43 billion), or 4.7% of the country's GDP - the highest among NATO allies. Overall, the large-scale production of Borsuk BMPs should not only strengthen the defence capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces, but also become a catalyst for the development of the national defence sector.
