Polestar, owned by Volvo Cars and Geely Group, is facing another wave of recalls. Following the recent announcement of a recall of nearly 28,000 Polestar 2 electric cars in the US due to a faulty rearview camera, a similar problem has been found in the 2025 model year Polestar 3 crossover.

Here's What We Know

According to the manufacturer, the Polestar 3 does not display the rearview camera image on the display when reverse gear is engaged. Moreover, when travelling forward at less than 10 mph (16 km/h), if reverse gear was previously engaged, the system erroneously displays a 360-degree panoramic image rather than the rear view.

Interestingly, in the case of the Polestar 2, the cause of the failure was stated to be a synchronisation error between the camera and the multimedia system. However, in the case of Polestar 3, the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the technical essence of the fault. It is only known that the problem can be fixed by a wireless software update (OTA), which is already being prepared.

The company became aware of the potential malfunction on 10 February 2025 after the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filed three complaints regarding the failure of the rearview camera.

The recall will affect 3,665 Polestar 3s manufactured between 7 March 2024 and 23 April 2025. The software update will be installed free of charge - either by the dealer or via OTA. Notification to owners will begin on 1 July 2025.

Problems with rear-view cameras have also affected Volvo: the Swedish brand has announced a recall of 413,151 cars in the US due to a similar fault preventing the image from being displayed on the centre screen. The list includes the S60, V60 Cross Country, S90, V90, XC60, XC40, XC90, C40 and other models.
