Over the past few years, there have been numerous rumours that Rockstar Games is preparing a remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV. Last time insiders reported that the studio abandoned the idea after the failed release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, which was released in 2021 and struck the public with terrible technical performance. But according to new reports Rockstar may still release a re-release of the iconic 2008 crime action game.

Here's What We Know

Reputable insider and dataminer Tez2 has shared the information he claims to have been told by a Rockstar employee. Tez2 assures that the studio is still working on a remaster of GTA IV for modern platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC) and moreover, may release it before the end of 2025.

The source believes that the abrupt and unexpected cancellation of the fan mod Liberty City Preservation Project, which, as planned by its creators, would have allowed the transfer of the map from GTA IV to GTA V, may be related to this project. It is claimed that it was after an "educational" conversation with Rockstar representatives that the mod was cancelled.

Tez2 also reported that Rockstar may re-release another famous game, Max Payne 3, after the GTA IV port. This would give Rockstar the opportunity to sell the updated game as part of a compilation alongside the Max Payne 1 2 Remake that Remedy Entertainment is currently working on.
