BYD has officially entered the Romanian market with several EV and PHEV models
Chinese auto giant BYD has announced its entry into the Romanian market - the country has become part of the brand's large-scale strategy to expand its presence in Europe. In 2025, the company plans to start sales in 12 new European countries, and by the end of the year - to open more than 1,000 dealerships, including 30 in Romania.
Here's What We Know
BYD has unveiled four models in Romania: three crossovers and one sedan. The most affordable will be a compact electric crossover Atto 2, the starting price of which is €22,600. For this money, the buyer gets a 45.1 kWh battery and a range of 312 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

The BYD Seal electric sedan is available in two versions: rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The base model is priced at €37,590, while the all-wheel drive model is priced at €42,590. The Seal is positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3, offering a more premium interior and a markedly different approach to design.
The most important model should be the Sealion 7 crossover. Against the backdrop Tesla on the sidelines: profits plummet 71 per cent, Musk vows to 'get back to work' Tesla Model Y, the Sealion 7 offers an alternative priced from €40,590.
Also coming to Romania will be the Seal U, a plug-in hybrid crossover with a claimed combined range of over 1,000 kilometres. An 18.3 kWh battery allows up to 69 km on electric power before the petrol engine kicks in. The Seal U is the brand's most affordable mid-size SUV, with a starting price of €34,890.
BYD emphasises that the announced prices already take into account the state subsidies in force in Romania: up to €8,700 for the purchase of an electric car and €3,000 for a hybrid, provided the old car is scrapped.
