Nintendo is preparing to launch Switch 2 on June 5, and although the new product looks very similar to its predecessor, the company assures that it is a completely new console created from scratch, although it understands people who do not see many differences.

Here's What We Know

After the official announcement of the Switch 2, many gamers noted that the design of the new console has hardly changed compared to the original Switch. This contrasts with the revolutionary changes between the Wii U and Switch, or even the Wii and Wii U. However, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa emphasises that despite its familiar shape, Switch 2 is a completely new device with new accessories designed to meet the demands of today's games and players.

"It may not seem like there's much difference between Switch 2 and the previous model, but we've created new hardware and accessories from scratch. It's a very Nintendo-like product, filled with creative ideas and attention to quality," Furukawa said. According to him, the main focus is on a significant increase in performance: modern games require more powerful hardware, and Switch 2 is focused on this.

The new Joy-Con 2 is magnetically attached, and the device itself has become larger and received a wide stand for convenient portable gaming. The updated docking station allows for 4K video output, and the speakers have become more powerful. New features include mouse support in a number of games, which opens up new gaming opportunities.

Nintendo emphasises that Switch 2 allows developers to create games that would not have been possible on the previous platform. For example, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are next-generation exclusives that fully unlock the potential of the updated hardware.

However, the launch of Switch 2 is also accompanied by challenges. The price of the console in the US is $450, and accessories and games have also risen in price due to new duties and changing market conditions. Nintendo warns that prices may be adjusted depending on the economic situation. Nevertheless, analysts believe that even with this price, the Switch 2 has every chance of becoming a hit: the company plans to sell 15 million devices by March 2026, but already now demand far exceeds supply.
