Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix teams up with Japan's TBS Television to create a brand new video game
Square Enix, the publisher of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, has announced a collaboration with Japanese television company TBS Television to create a brand new video game.
Here's What We Know
Square Enix will join forces with TBS Television, a Tokyo-based network that has gained popularity for shows such as Ninja Warrior, Ultraman, and Takeshi's Castle. The two companies intend to leverage their strengths in television and interactive entertainment to create an original game that will be launched both in Japan and internationally.
While no further details have been disclosed, Square Enix said that the collaboration is part of its new medium-term business plan to expand its portfolio of original IP and develop new business models.
Square Enix also reiterated its plans to focus on "quality, not quantity" and release games on different platforms. Square Enix said that after the completion of its three-year reboot plan in March 2027, the company will be able to release "core games in predominantly core IPs" on a consistent basis.
The plan aims to increase productivity by "optimising the development base", which includes cancelling numerous projects from last year due to their "incompatibility" with the new strategy.
As for TBS, the company founded TBS Games in July 2023 with the aim of creating new intelligent products. The cooperation with Square Enix is undoubtedly an important step in achieving this goal.
