The role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become an undoubted hit and will definitely receive a huge number of awards at the end of the year. Sandfall Interactive's debut project is receiving rave reviews from gamers, excellent reviews from critics and even received praise from French President Emmanuel Macron.

However, the original concept of the game was somewhat different, and it is not a fact that if the developers had followed this concept - they would have made a masterpiece.

Here's What We Know

Not so long ago, gamdirektor Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guillaume Broche admitted that he was looking for employees and voice actors on forums and social networks, and now on the Internet spreads a trailer, filmed in 2020, which was shown to potential team members as an example of the vision of the game.

So, at that time the game had a completely different concept: it was also an RPG with turn-based battles, but there was a place for zombies, aliens and other strange creatures, and instead of a world extremely similar to France of the XIX-XX centuries, players would be greeted by steampunk aesthetics. This concept was in the works for about six months, after which Sandfall Interactive talked to partners and investors and came to the conclusion that many elements needed to be changed. That's what the studio did, proving the correctness of its actions.
