Although One UI 7 based on Android 15 is not yet available on all devices, Samsung is already actively testing One UI 8 for the Galaxy S23 series. The Galaxy S23 (SM-S911U) and S23+ (SM-S916U) with Android 16 on board have been spotted in the Geekbench database.

Here's What We Know

This means that the company is preparing a major update for the 2023 flagships this summer.

The most interesting thing is that there is no Galaxy S23 Ultra among the leaks yet, but both tested smartphones have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip and 8 GB of RAM. One UI 7 is currently rolling out globally with the April security patch and Galaxy AI features: Note Assist, Call Assist, Interpreter and support for Google Gemini.

One UI 8 is expected to make its official debut alongside the foldable Galaxy Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July. The update won't be radical, but it will include Galaxy AI improvements, new Android 16 security features such as Advanced Protection Program, enhanced factory reset protection, AI-based malware detection, and improved UWB support.

This will be the third of four guaranteed updates for the S23 series. While One UI 7 did not include some Galaxy AI features like Audio Eraser or natural language search, One UI 8 may make up for those gaps.

During The Android Show 2025, Samsung confirmed that Android 16 firmware for its current gadgets will be released in the summer. The company is confident that the large-scale problems that accompanied the rollout of One UI 7 will not happen again.
