Google to add Gemini assistant to Chrome
Google is officially integrating its AI assistant Gemini into the Chrome browser. During Google I/O 2025 conference to be held on 20-21 May, the company will present a new feature codenamed GLIC (Gemini Live in Chrome).
Here's What We Know
It will add a floating Gemini icon to the top right corner of Chrome to quickly ask questions to artificial intelligence and get answers without leaving the browser.
Gemini has long been Google's key AI project. The company has been actively implementing it in various services, and now it is the turn of the world's most popular browser. According to Google, Gemini will help fight fraud in Chrome, but the integration promises to be much deeper.
Users will be able to activate Gemini in Chrome settings through the GLIC section. Enabling this option will add an assistant button next to the usual window control buttons - minimise, maximise, close. In addition, Gemini can be pinned next to the clock on the taskbar for instant access.
Google's goal is to make the AI assistant always at hand so that users can receive help continuously and in the most convenient way possible. The ability to quickly launch Gemini right in the browser can become an alternative to Microsoft Copilot on Windows and make it much easier to work with information and creative tasks.
Gemini's integration into Chrome is expected by the end of 2025, and Google plans to share more details about all the features at its conference in the near future.
