BMW has hinted at a new concept car - a possible Skytop-based schutzing breaker
BMW has released teasers of a mysterious concept that could turn out to be a hooting break inspired by last year's Skytop convertible. The images show a darkened silhouette with a sloping roofline, expressive rear wings and slim lights.
Here's What We Know
BMW emphasises that the new car will be the epitome of "dynamism, refinement and exoticism". All of this points to a low-production car or a showcar built by hand, possibly with the help of a third-party coachbuilder.
If the car is indeed based on the G15 - the 8-series platform, like the Skytop - the powertrain is likely to remain the same. In this case, we are talking about the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 familiar from the BMW M8 Competition. Its output is 625 hp (460 kW).
Full-fledged premiere is expected at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, which will be held from 24 to 26 May 2025 on Lake Como. As a reminder, it was at this very event last year that the Skytop made its debut, and shortly afterwards BMW confirmed the production of 50 examples, each costing around $500,000. All the cars were sold out almost instantly.
Given the high demand, the new model could get approval for limited production, too. In a recent interview, BMW M vice president of customer experience and sales Sylvia Neubauer said that the company will show something new at this year's Villa d'Este, and will release limited edition M models in the future."
