Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Bungie and its upcoming action shooter Marathon, and, unfortunately, mostly in a negative way. The problems with the plagiarism scandal and reports of a catastrophic drop in morale at the studio have been compounded by the revelation that a former employee who worked on Marathon has called the working conditions "extremely toxic and degrading".

Here's What We Know

In a post on social media, a developer known online as Spirited, who worked in the game's engineering department, expressed his condolences to those still working on the project at the studio.

"My experience with the leadership of the engineering department and Marathon was extremely toxic and humiliating," he said, "I won't talk about the rest of it, but Bungie's leadership needs to be completely overhauled.

Spirited worked on the team that developed the game's online services. He added that this team "was disbanded during the cutbacks that happened just a few weeks" after he left Bungie. Before working on Marathon, he was involved in the creation of Destiny.

Spirited did not want to go into details and stressed that his posts were his own opinion and that he was "not interested in making statements that would violate the NDA". Later, for unknown reasons, the post was removed altogether.
