There has long been talk that Microsoft may open up the Xbox console ecosystem to third-party game shops. Head of gaming Phil Spencer has even openly admitted that he thinks launching Steam or EGS on Xbox would be a great idea.

Here's What We Know

Authoritative insider and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden has published an article stating that Microsoft has not only not given up on the idea, but is already in talks with Valve about the technical nuances of integrating Steam on Xbox consoles.

Moreover, Corden's sources say that such a possibility is already being tested, although he himself is not ready to 100% believe this data.

Previously, insiders shared that the next Xbox may be significantly transformed and will be not so much a console in the usual form, but optimised for games PC without unnecessary features and in a convenient compact body. The device is expected to be released in 2027 and it's not yet clear if Steam is worth waiting for on the current generation Xbox or if it will be one of the main features of the new device.
