Volvo Trucks has revealed details of a new electric model for long-haul haulage - the Volvo FH Aero Electric. It is the brand's first heavy long-haul tractor, capable of travelling up to 600km on a single charge and recovering up to 80 per cent of its charge in just 40 minutes.

FH Aero Electric features

  • Range: up to 600 kilometres on a single charge
  • Charging: up to 80% in 40 minutes thanks to support for the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) standard.
  • Configuration: 6×2, with support axle for increased payload capacity
  • Battery capacity: 780 kWh (8 batteries)
  • Gross combination weight: up to 48 tonnes
  • Engines: new e-axle drive frees up battery space

According to Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm, the FH Aero Electric is a breakthrough in zero-emission transport. Electric trucks are now able to cover really long distances without compromising performance.

Volvo emphasises that fast charging in 40 minutes complies with mandatory driver breaks under EU law. This ensures that no time is wasted and the delivery pace remains high.

Thanks to the additional axle and optimised unit layout, the Volvo FH Aero Electric is able to carry loads comparable to its diesel counterpart. This is especially important for logistics companies where every kilogramme counts.

The FH Aero Electric will be the eighth model in Volvo Trucks' electric range. The company has already delivered more than 5,000 electric trucks to 50 countries since the start of series production in 2019.
