After years of anticipation, Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially released in two weeks. And along with it, Mario Kart World will make its debut. But as it turned out, the game was made for the first Switch.

Here's What We Know

According to producer Kosuke Yabuki, work on the game began in 2017, immediately after the completion of Mario Kart 8. The team did not want to just add new tracks and release Mario Kart 9 - their goal was to take the series to the next level. That's why they decided to abandon the traditional numbering and create a new title - Mario Kart World.

The main idea of the game is a huge world where all the tracks are combined into a single space. Previously, after completing a track, a player would find themselves on a new one, but now they can move freely between them, discovering new locations and challenges. This became possible thanks to modern technology that allows to implement such a large-scale game world.

However, the development was not without its challenges. The team wanted to increase the number of players to 24, but this was difficult to implement on Nintendo Switch. Programming Director Kenta Sato admitted that they had to limit the graphics, reduce the resolution, and even consider lowering the frame rate. But the transition to the Nintendo Switch 2 has opened up new possibilities - now we can implement all our ideas without compromise.

Mario Kart World will be released on 5 June alongside Nintendo Switch 2 for $80.
