In the spring of 2025, sales of gaming consoles in the US continued to fall for the fourth month in a row. However, there is good news: the market is gradually stabilising, and Nintendo is preparing to launch a new console that will change the situation.

Here's What We Know

According to Circana, sales of gaming equipment in the US in April 2025 decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year. This is a significant improvement compared to March, when the decline was 25%. Total revenue from console sales was $186 million, the lowest since July 2020, when the market recorded $163 million.

Overall, in 2025, spending on consoles decreased by 28% compared to last year. Such a decline rate is explained by the lack of new hit launches and the expectation of new consoles.

PlayStation is doing the best of all. It retains its leadership in terms of both units sold and revenue, although sales declined by 5% in April.

Nintendo, on the other hand, recorded a serious drop: sales fell by another 37%. However, everything can change in June - on 5 June, the company will release Nintendo Switch 2, and analysts expect this to significantly boost sales in the second half of the year.

Xbox showed positive dynamics: hardware sales in April increased by 8% in monetary terms.

As for accessories, their sales also decreased by 2% in April to $166 million. Overall, accessory sales fell by 13% for the year.

As a reminder, Monster Hunter Wilds is still the best-selling game in the US and is not going to leave the No. 1 spot.
