Bungie, the company known for Marathon and Destiny 2, is once again in the public eye - this time due to fresh investigations into its internal culture and overly aggressive monetisation of games. Former employees talk about the toxic atmosphere, disregard for players, and strange decisions made by management. But it doesn't end there.

Here's What We Know

Recently, Destin journalist published a video in which former Bungie employees accuse the studio of creating a toxic work environment, humiliation, malfunctioning HR department, and mismanagement by the management.

These stories say that the management tried to introduce a paid subscription for Destiny 2, but the idea was rejected by the development team. Similar rumours already appeared in 2022.

Destiny 2 was initially released as a paid game, but later turned into a free-to-play project with paid DLC and microtransactions that provide a stable income for the studio. Former employees claim that Bungie's management was obsessed with monetising the game by any means necessary.

One example is the story of how the management was worried that the armour from the Trials of Osiris event would be "too attractive", which, in their opinion, could reduce the sales of cosmetics in the Eververse store.

The former employee also said that the team was severely "reprimanded" for insufficient monetisation, with the interests of players and the community often being in the background. "Everything that happens to Bungie is because of greed," said one of the former employees.
