The Force Awakens: Star Wars Battlefront II is back at the peak of popularity, fans demand Battlefront III
Galactic war is gaining momentum again, but not in cinemas, but on the screens of gamers. Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) by DICE is experiencing an incredible surge in popularity. The number of simultaneous players on Steam has reached almost record levels, and this is happening against the backdrop of a fan campaign that calls on EA to create a new part of this beloved multi-million dollar franchise.
Here's What We Know
In recent days, the peak online game on Steam has reached 9,292 simultaneous players, which is only slightly behind its all-time record of 10,489 players, according to SteamDB. Until mid-April 2025, the number of players fluctuated between 1,500 and 3,000, but then, despite the game's eight-year age, the numbers began to grow rapidly. Interestingly, this jump coincided with the return of the second and final season of the Star Wars series to Disney+: Andor.
This also led to an active campaign for the creation of the third game in the new series. Recently, Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor posted an appeal on his Instagram: "Star Wars must give us Battlefront 3 ASAP".
The Battlefrontsubreddit is also experiencing a boom in activity and engagement, with fans discussing how much they are enjoying the return to the game.
Although 2015's Battlefront and 2017's Battlefront II have sold more than 33 million copies together, EA has yet to confirm any plans to continue the series. In 2024, there were reports that EA had rejected DICE's offer for Battlefront III due to the high licensing costs that Disney would have to pay.
Currently, DICE is working on Battlefield 6, so we should not expect the developer to take on the third Battlefront game in the near future, if ever.
