Apple has stopped developing the Apple Watch with a built-in camera, which was planned to be released in 2027. It is reported by Bloomberg.

Here's What We Know

New Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra models with a camera that would capture the user's environment are no longer being developed - the project was completed this week.

The camera in the watch was not intended for FaceTime calls or photos, but was supposed to help users get information about objects and places around them. For example, the watch could show restaurant opening hours, identify plants, describe objects, or translate texts. This function was similar to Visual Intelligence, an artificial intelligence feature in the iPhone that analyses objects pointed at by the camera.

Although Apple cancelled the release of such models, the company continues to develop AirPods with small cameras. These are likely to include infrared sensors to improve spatial sound, control gestures in the air, and AI functions.

The reasons for the cessation of work on the camera in Apple Watch have not yet been disclosed, but it is possible that the technology may be returned later.
