Mi-8 helicopter crashes again in Russia, this time with ammunition on board
An Mi-8 military helicopter, which, according to preliminary data, belonged to the Russian Aerospace Forces, crashed near the village of Naryshkino in the Orel region of the Russian Federation for unknown reasons. Both pilots were killed in the crash.
Here's What We Know
The incident occurred around 14:00. According to local Telegram channels, the helicopter tilted sharply to the right twice before the crash, which was captured on eyewitness video. This may indicate a loss of control or a malfunction in one of the control units.
At the crash site, residents heard repeated explosions, which may be related to the detonation of ammunition carried on board. This version is confirmed by information from the Russian channel Radar VRV, according to which the helicopter was transporting ammunition.
An additional indirect confirmation of the military purpose is provided by , a photo of the helicopter before the crash, which shows suspended pylons for weapons and special equipment. Although there has been no official statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence, the incident has already been reported in the local media.
This is not the first time that Russia has lost a combat helicopter for technical reasons. In August 2024, a similar incident occurred near Donetsk, when an Mi-8 that was performing an evacuation also crashed, and despite attempts to explain the loss by an AFU strike, no confirmation emerged.
