Disney has proven that it can still make a good remake. The live-action adaptation of Lilo and Stitch has been released internationally and has already earned over $341 million worldwide, setting the second highest result of all 2024 premieres.

Here's What We Know

The new film about a little girl's friendship with a chaotic alien has won the hearts of viewers around the world. During its opening weekend, the film grossed $341 million globally, of which $157.8 million came from foreign markets.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Kemp, the film about an alien who finds himself in Hawaii and meets a family has already received positive reviews and attracted the attention of viewers of different generations.

This is the second best result of all the year's premieres, only surpassed by A Minecraft Movie, which opened with over $300 million in three days.

Lilo and Stitch also ranked third among all Disney remakes in its opening weekend, behind The Lion King (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), each of which eventually crossed the $1 billion mark.

The film performed best in Mexico ($23.7 million), the UK ($12.9 million) and Brazil ($11.1 million). The high ticket sales and positive reviews suggest that Lilo and Stitch could break several more records and possibly approach the performance of the company's most successful remakes.
