Spanish carmaker Seat has produced the first battery samples for its next-generation electric cars
The first pre-production samples of the battery systems were recently produced at Seat's new plant in Martorel. In addition, the first body parts were produced there on the new PXL press.

Seat has completed the installation of the main equipment and started pre-series battery assembly a year and a half after the plant was completed. At this stage, assembly is combined - using automated stations and manual operations. Once fully operational, the plant will operate with fully robotic lines and employ 500 workers.
In parallel, the company is building a 600-metre bridge with a conveyor system for the automated transport of batteries to the main assembly hall, synchronised with the rhythm of car production.
Investment in the project totalled 300 million euros and the facility covers an area of 64,000 m². The maximum capacity is 300,000 batteries per year. The plant will supply batteries exclusively for the electric vehicles of the Brand Group Core platform, in particular the Cupra Raval and the production version of the Volkswagen ID concept. 2all, which will be produced in Martorel after 2026.

Another milestone in the company's electrification strategy was the pre-production of the first body parts for the Cupra Raval on the new PXL press. This equipment, in operation since 2024, is designed to optimise production. The press can produce large parts with a rhythmicity of 15 strokes per minute and a stamping capacity of up to 4 million parts per year.
