The South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace has presented a concept of an unmanned multiple launch rocket system that looks like the well-known Chunmoo, but is designed for new combat scenarios, including maritime operations.

Here's What We Know

The new system was first presented at the MADEX 2025 exhibition. It will weigh about 17 tonnes and is being developed by order of the South Korean Ministry of Defence. An important emphasis is placed on the system's ability to operate on various types of platforms, both sea and land.

This means that it can operate effectively during dispersed amphibious operations or in coastal defence, launching missiles from both the deck of a ship and from land.

The new project illustrates the growing interest in autonomous missile artillery solutions, particularly in the face of multi-vector threats and the need for rapid response.

This is not the first autonomous innovation from Hanwha. In early May, the company also unveiled the K9A3 unmanned self-propelled artillery system concept, an upgraded version of the famous K9 Thunder. It is designed to operate remotely or fully autonomously and is equipped with a new 155 mm cannon with a barrel length of 58 calibres. This allows the range of target destruction to increase to 80 km when using high-precision projectiles.
