The team that created the Shortcuts app (later acquired by Apple) presented a new project - Sky. This is a smart assistant with deep integration into macOS that can analyse everything that happens on the Mac screen and help users with almost any task.

Here's What We Know

Sky works as a semi-transparent window on top of the active application and is activated with one click. The assistant can answer questions, write texts, schedule tasks, help with code, and more. Its capabilities are further enhanced by support for scripts, custom queries, and integration with third-party applications.

Sky knows what apps are open, understands the context, and can act accordingly: create an event in your Calendar, send a message, write a note, or even find a restaurant for a dinner that was mentioned in a conversation. It supports Mail, Safari, Finder, Messages, Notes, and other system apps.

Federico Viticci, a tester at MacStories, called Sky "an app that changes daily automation. For example, to share a link from Safari, all you have to do is tell Sky: it will extract the link, create a short description, and send it to the right person via iMessage.

Sky is powered by GPT-4.1 or Claude, and thanks to its deep macOS integration, it can perform tasks that only LLM models can do. The release is scheduled for the summer, and those interested can already join the waiting list.
