BYD has announced a partnership with major charging station operators Xiaoju Charging and Xindietu in China. Together, they will launch 10,000 and 5,000 units of megawatt fast chargers.

Here's What We Know

BYD's stated goal is to make ultra-fast charging accessible to most electric car users. In addition to co-building with partners, BYD has previously committed to building 4,000 of its own megawatt charging stations. To date, 500 stations have been completed, covering over 200 major cities in China.

Xiaoju Charging currently works with more than 8,400 businesses and serves over 34 million users. Xindietu, for its part, has integrated more than 90 per cent of public charging stations in China and operates in 400 cities. Working together, the three companies will cover major motorways and urban areas.

BYD's rollout of megawatt chargers follows the March debut of the technology in BYD's Han L and Tang L electric car models. Both support charging speeds of up to 400 kilometres of range in just five minutes.
