Jonathan Joss, an actor who left his mark in games such as Red Dead Redemption and Cyberpunk 2077, was shot dead in San Antonio, Texas.

Here's What We Know

According to the San Antonio Express News, Joss suffered several gunshot wounds after a confrontation with a neighbour who initially shouted "homophobic slurs" at the actor and his husband.

While Joss was primarily known for his roles in television shows and films, his three-decade career took him to studios working on various video games, including Red Dead Redemption (2010), Cyberpunk 2077 (and Phantom Liberty), and Days Gone.

In an emotional post on social media, Jonathan Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzalez, wrote:

"My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shootout while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That house burned down after two years of threats from people in the neighbourhood who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We repeatedly reported these threats to law enforcement agencies and nothing was done.

Throughout this time, we were regularly harassed by individuals who made it clear that they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.

When we returned to the place to check our mail, we found the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in a visible place. This caused us both a lot of emotional stress. We started screaming and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.

While we were doing this, a man approached us. He started shouting violent homophobic slurs at us. Then he lifted a gun from his lap and fired.

Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing next to each other. When the man shot, Jonathan pushed me away. He saved my life.

Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get."

Joss was best known for his voice work on King of the Hill, where he played John Redknight in a role that lasted from 1997 to 2009. He also played Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation alongside Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler.

His most recent video game role was in Phantom Liberty, the first and final expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. He also appeared in Wasteland 3 as Payaso Wannabe in 2020, and in 2019, he played Alkay Turner in Days Gone.
