Global production of the Volkswagen Golf has fallen sharply in recent years, Reuters reported. If in 2015, 1 million Golfs came off the assembly lines, in 2024 - only 300,000, and only 250,000 copies are planned for 2025.

Here's What We Know

Volkswagen is limiting production of internal combustion engine vehicles at its main plant in Wolfsburg to four days a week to prepare the facility for production of the next-generation electric Golf. As part of a major restructuring plan with the reduction of 35,000 jobs in Germany, the company intends to completely move production of the VW Golf with internal combustion engines from Germany to Mexico by 2027.

Daniela Cavallo, head of the production council, told workers that the reduction in shifts in Wolfsburg is a temporary measure and the future of the company is not threatened. In addition to the new generation of the electric Golf, the successor to the T-Roc compact crossover is scheduled to begin production there by the end of the decade.
