Samsung has officially announced a significant expansion of the availability of sleep apnoea detection on its Galaxy Watch smartwatch. From now on, this feature is supported in 36 more countries, 34 of which are European.

Here's What We Know

In total, the feature is now available in 70 countries.

The feature is compatible with Galaxy Watch4 and later models running on Wear OS 5.0 and higher. However, there are a few conditions: the watch must be connected to a Samsung smartphone with Android 12 or later. Also, if you travel to a country where this feature is not supported, it will automatically turn off.

Sleep apnoea is a serious medical condition in which breathing temporarily stops during sleep. It affects blood oxygen levels, sleep quality, and can lead to hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and cognitive impairment.

Galaxy Watch uses the BioActive sensor to measure your blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂) during sleep. By analysing the changes in SpO₂, the device detects signs of apnoea and hypopnoea, assesses the likelihood of the disorder, and notifies the user.
