The Hyundai Palisade is one of the Korean brand's most important models in the US. It sold 44,544 cars in the first five months of this year, making the seven-seat SUV the fourth most popular after the Tucson, Elantra and Santa Fe. But now the popular model is in trouble - owners have filed a class action lawsuit over allegedly faulty ABS.

Here's What We Know

The lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California. It alleges that the 2023-2025 Palisade has improperly functioning ABS and traction control systems. According to the plaintiffs, when the car brakes on rough roads or bumps, the wheel speed sensors malfunction. This causes the brakes to frantically release and reapply, and the car brakes longer than it should.

Three owners are named in the lawsuit, all with the same problems. Camille Maldonado says her Palisade feels like it's sliding on the surface when she tries to brake on rough roads. She feels like the car stops too slowly.

Two other plaintiffs, Shlomo Vizel and Terrance Rubin, complain of the same thing. Vizel went to a Hyundai dealer, but was told the ABS was working fine. And Rubin was told by another car dealership that they didn't know what caused the malfunction or how to fix it.

The lawsuit also says Hyundai knew about the problem even before production began. The company received complaints from early buyers, and owners have been discussing the problem online since February 2023.

The plaintiffs refer to complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). One of them says: "Driving at 5 mph (8 km / h), hit a small bump, triggered ABS, and the car stopped braking. Almost hit the car in front of me. Only the emergency braking system saved me".

The three plaintiffs want to represent all Palisade owners in the states of New York and Ohio. They are seeking a jury trial, compensatory damages and costs. Hyundai has not yet commented on the situation in any way - the company will likely remain silent until the lawsuit is over.
