New Witcher will take the best of Kingdom Come 2 and Baldur's Gate 3: CDPR reveals secrets of The Witcher 4 development
CD Projekt Red has recognised the huge success of its colleagues in the genre, and this will have a direct impact on the long-awaited The Witcher 4. After the era of dominance of The Witcher 3, the world saw new masterpieces such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, which have gained worldwide recognition. Now, it seems that CDPR is looking to integrate the best elements of these hits into their next game to raise the bar once again.
Here's What We Know
The Witcher 3 will go down in history as one of the greatest video games of all time. It took the role-playing game genre to new heights and has been considered a benchmark for many years. Baldur's Gate 3 made no less of an impact in 2023, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in 2025 offers a more brutal and realistic approach. Both games can directly influence and help shape The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt Red co-CEO Adam Badowski spoke to PC Gamer about The Witcher 4, its direction, and what we can expect to see different from The Witcher 3.
"I love Kingdom Come because of the realism and the feel, the sense of humour. The Kingdom Come simulation is great," Badovsky says. "There are so many options, you can change the world, it's super awesome. And we would like to keep that, we would like to follow that trend as well." This suggests that CDPR is looking to add more depth to the interaction with the game world and the consequences of player choices.
The interview hints that Badowski and CDPR like "the more simulation and systemic aspects of KCD2, which is something CDPR is watching with interest because it's partly the direction The Witcher 4 is going in". This could mean a more complex economy, survival mechanics, or even reputation systems that react to your every decision.
Baldur's Gate 3 is also mentioned in the conversation. CDPR is also still learning and absorbing details from the game and Larian Studios.
So now we can only imagine what exactly from these games the Polish studio will take and what The Witcher 4 will be like.
