More powerful and economical: Mitsubishi ASX gets a new hybrid system
Mitsubishi has unveiled an updated ASX compact crossover for the 2026 model year. The main change is a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.8-litre engine, which has become more economical, more powerful and can pull a larger load.
Here's What We Know
For the 2026 model year, the Mitsubishi ASX hybrid system's 1.6-litre engine will be replaced by a new, more efficient 1.8-litre engine. Power has risen to 160 horsepower (118 kW) - 15 hp more than the current model. The petrol motor's torque has increased by 25 per cent, giving a sharper response throughout the rev range. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 1 second quicker.
Fuel consumption is reduced by around 5 per cent and CO₂ emissions are also reduced. Thanks to a larger battery, the ASX can run longer on pure electricity.
The gearbox has also been refined - it's now quieter and quicker to respond to the throttle. Transmission selector has received an updated design. Automatic parking brake with holding function is now standard on Intense.

The new hybrid makes the ASX more practical in everyday life. The maximum weight of a towed trailer has grown from 750 kg to a tonne, that will be useful both at home and on holiday.
In the Netherlands, the Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 HEV 2026 will be available in four trim levels: Intense, Intense+, Executive and Instyle. Prices start at 34,490 euros. The richest Instyle configuration costs from 41,490 euros.
At that, the 1.0-litre turbo engine and 1.3-litre mild hybrid have not gone anywhere. So the most affordable ASX can still be bought for 29,990 euros.
