At Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft officially unveiled Xbox Ally, a handheld gaming console co-developed with ASUS ROG that previously appeared under the working name Project Kennan.

Here's What We Know

The device runs on an adapted version of Windows 11 optimised for touch and gamepad controls.

The console will come in two versions: the Xbox Ally and the more advanced Xbox Ally X, which will get an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with a 50 TOPS neural processor, while the base version will feature a Z2 A chip with stripped-down graphics.

Key specs:

  • display: 7″ IPS LCD with FHD resolution, 120Hz and AMD FreeSync Premium support;
  • performance: Xbox Ally X features CPU Zen 5 (8 cores, 16 threads) and GPU RDNA 3.5 (16 cores), while the base version uses CPU Zen 2 (4 cores, 8 threads) and GPU RDNA 2 (8 cores);
  • operating system: Windows 11 Home with a redesigned Xbox App that integrates the libraries of Steam, Epic Games, GoG, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net and other platforms.

Devices will be able to run games natively or via the cloud (Xbox Cloud Gaming).

The Xbox Ally's design is styled after the Xbox Series X|S controller and features improved triggers that provide tactile feedback.

The Xbox Ally and Ally X are expected to go on sale in time for the Christmas holidays this year, and exact pricing has not yet been revealed.
