Apple is preparing to launch the second generation of AirTag with three important updates. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the new product is "almost ready" and may appear in the near future, possibly by mid-2025.

Here's What We Know

In his weekly newsletter Power On, Gurman confirmed that the new AirTag has been in preparation for several months, but we should not expect its presentation at the WWDC conference.

The main updates expected in the second version of the device are

  • the second generation of the Ultra Wideband chip, which will provide a three times longer tracking range
  • integration with Vision Pro and spatial computing technologies;
  • and an improved speaker that will make it harder for unauthorised users to use AirTag for tracking.

The appearance of the new AirTag will not change significantly - the design will remain similar to the original, introduced in April 2021. Back then, Apple set the price in the US at $29 for a single device and $99 for a set of four.

The original AirTag quickly became popular for finding keys, bags, and other items thanks to its precise tracking via the Find My network. The new model is expected to retain this functionality while improving security and usability.

It is noted that this generation of AirTag may come with an innovative AirTag Recolor feature, although details regarding this feature remain unknown.
