Android Authority portal has reported that Google is working on bringing back the technology to automatically adjust the screen's colour temperature based on lighting. The feature was previously known as Ambient EQ and first appeared in the Pixel 4 smartphone in 2019. Now it is planned to be introduced in the Pixel 10 series under a new name - Adaptive tone.

Here's What We Know

The main purpose of Adaptive tone is to analyse ambient lighting conditions and adjust the white balance on the screen, making the image warmer or cooler depending on the environment. Apple uses a similar True Tone technology in its devices.

To implement the function Google will use an updated light and colour sensor - ams TMD3743, which is able to more accurately read the parameters of the environment. This sensor also allows you to take into account not only the brightness but also the spectrum of light, which improves the accuracy of colour correction.

Ambient EQ was previously available in the Pixel Tablet and Pixel 4, but its implementation was limited to minimal visual changes. Now Google is supposedly reworking the technology so that it can have a more noticeable effect on images and improve viewing comfort.

The Pixel 10 series smartphones Media: Google Pixel 10 smartphones will be unveiled as early as August at the Made by Google event.
