At the WWDC 2025 conference, Apple announced a complete redesign of all its platforms - iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and CarPlay. The new style is called Liquid Glass and became the first unified design for the entire Apple ecosystem.

Here's What We Know

According to Craig Federighi, Head of Software, the new approach was made possible by the increased power of Apple Silicon chips. Thanks to the power of Apple Silicon, the company was able to implement visual solutions and effects that were previously unattainable dreams.

What is Liquid Glass?

Liquid Glass is a transparent, multi-layered interface with rounded shapes, created using the same principles as visionOS design. It adapts to the user's needs: it changes when switching between screens or interacting with interface elements, just like real glass.

Key changes:

  • Completely updated app icons - now they are multi-layered and have a "liquid glass" effect.
  • A new transparent design mode that complements the usual light and dark ones.
  • Updated design of system applications, including Camera, Photos, Safari, Phone, FaceTime and others.
  • The new lock screen features a dynamic clock, 3D photo support, and animated album covers that can completely fill the screen.

Apple notes that Liquid Glass lays the foundation for the further development of the design of its platforms for years to come. This update unites all the company's products into one coherent visual system.
