The Kia PV5 electric van/minivan is already available to order in Korea - priced at around $35,000
Kia has started taking orders for the new PV5 electric model in Korea. The new model is offered in different configurations - from a refrigerated truck to a light camper and a passenger version Prime.
Here's What We Know
The electric vehicle is built on Hyundai Motor's new E-GMP.S development platform and can be customised for different tasks. The first two variants, the PV5 Passenger and Cargo, are built for individuals and businesses.
The Passenger model is available in five- or seven-seat configurations, while the Cargo model is available in three versions, depending on the volume or payload required. With a wheelbase of 2995mm, the Kia electric van (passenger version) is about the same size as the Volkswagen ID.Buzz (2998mm).
The rear seats of the five-seat models get a new 'fold dive' function - they fold down and 'dive', freeing up to 2,310 litres of space. The passenger model with a 71.2 kW⋅h battery can travel up to 358 kilometres. The cargo version is available with 51.5 kW⋅h or 71.2 kW⋅h batteries - these provide a range of 280 kilometres and 377 kilometres respectively.
On a 350-kilowatt charger, the PV5 (passenger and cargo models) charges from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.
The Kia PV5 features a 12.9-inch screen in the centre with Android Auto (AAOS) multimedia system. The new split-screen display allows you to use navigation, music and other apps at the same time. Similar to smartphones, the system supports installation of third-party apps from the App Market.
Kia opened orders for the PV5 in Korea on Tuesday, June 10, with prices starting at 47.08 million won ($34,700) for the base model. Including incentives and government subsidies, Kia expects the passenger van can be bought for around $25,000 to $30,000.
