JLR's parent company has created an electric SUV with a drift mode for $25,000
Indian company Tata, which owns Jaguar Land Rover, has unveiled an all-wheel drive electric SUV. It is called the Tata Harrier.ev and has a range of up to 627 kilometres on the Indian MIDC cycle.
Here's What We Know
The Tata Harrier.ev is an electric version of the petrol-powered Harrier model. Externally, the novelty differs little from its petrol counterpart - only a closed grille, modified bumpers and original 19-inch wheels. Inside, there is a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED display, which displays images from the surround-view camera and a JBL audio system with ten speakers.
The two engines produce a combined 391bhp and 504Nm of torque - the most powerful Harrier to date. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.3 seconds. The driver has a choice of six driving modes, Off-road Assist for difficult terrain and Drift mode for those who like to skid. Two batteries are offered - 65 kW⋅h and 75 kW⋅h. The 120kW DC fast charging charges them from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 25 minutes.
Tata will open pre-orders for the Harrier.ev in India on 2 July. Prices start at around $25,100, which is competitive for a mid-size electric SUV with this level of technology and performance. Admittedly, it's a significant jump from the petrol Harrier, which starts at $17,500.
