The news contains spoilers for the series and The Last of Us 2!

Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog's creative director and one of the series' creators, has confirmed that Kaitlyn Dever will be the main star of The Last of Us season 3. This marks an important stage in the development of the film adaptation, as her character, Abby, will play a significant role.

Here's What We Know

Fans of The Last of Us Part 2 knew that this was inevitable, given that the game makes the player play as both Ellie and Abby. The second season covered the first part of Part 2, which is a journey to Seattle from Ellie's perspective.

In the final moments of the finale, Abby wakes up in a different place and a caption appears on the screen: "Seattle, Day One". This means that we will see the same three days that Ellie and Dina spent tracking Abby, but from Abby's point of view.

Druckmann said: "I was pretty sure HBO wouldn't let us do that when we started adapting it, but they embraced what I think makes the story special. And they allowed us not only the time, but the creative freedom to take those steps, and I think the audience really appreciates that."

A fourth season is also being planned, which will likely cover the third part of Part 2, featuring the finale between Abby and Ellie.
