Samsung plans to release a new version of One UI 8 Watch operating system based on Google Wear OS 6 in the coming months. New models of Samsung smartwatches that will be released this year will be the first to run on the new software.

Here's What We Know

After that, the update will gradually become available for compatible devices.

However, there is a possibility that the first Galaxy Watch with Wear OS released in 2021 may not receive this update or that it will be the last major update for them. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, which first switched from Tizen to Wear OS, had a support guarantee of four years of operating system updates. This period expires in August 2025.

Samsung's new smartwatches, which will be unveiled in July, will already run One UI 8 Watch out of the box. After the launch, the company will start rolling out the update to newer models such as the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. If the update is not released for the Galaxy Watch 4 and 4 Classic by August 2025, there is a high probability that these models will remain on the current version.

Owners of older Galaxy Watches can only wait and hope for support from Samsung. Details will become clear after the official release of One UI 8 Watch.

Recently, Samsung officially announced a significant expansion of the availability of sleep apnoea detection on its Galaxy Watch smartwatch. From now on, this feature is supported in 36 more countries, 34 of which are European.
