Hideo Kojima will not give away the "wand" of his ideas to anyone and is committed to the eternal evolution of Kojima Productions
Kojima never hid the fact that he was seriously ill during the COVID-19 pandemic and worried that he would never be able to complete another project. Even after his recovery, Kojima still reflects on his death. However, he doesn't believe that Kojima Productions would have survived if he had instructed his successors to create games the way he does.
Here's What We Know
"I'm not going to pass the baton to anyone," Kojima told British GQ. "I'd rather break it... [Laughs] I don't need to give the Hideo Kojima to anyone. If I pass the baton to my staff and tell them to do things the way I do, the company will fail and go bankrupt."
When asked to explain his statement in more detail, Kojima explained that the creators who are inspired by him "got my little fire" and don't try to be exactly like him. He is happy to have influenced many, but does not want anyone to try to copy him completely.
Earlier this year, Kojima revealed that he filled a USB stick with his video game ideas to be used after his death. He called it his "will" and said that he would have preferred Kojima Productions to continue creating new games and new ideas, rather than just repeating the ones he had already made.
Kojima's next game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will be released on PlayStation 5 on 26 June. His other upcoming projects include the Xbox-exclusive OD and the spy and combat game Physint. Kojima is also involved in the development of the A24 film Death Stranding.
