The Guangzhou-based electric car manufacturer has announced the next generation 800-volt platform and an "industry-first 5C LFP battery" for its European versions of the 2026 model year G6 and G9 electric cars.

Here's What We Know

LFP stands for lithium-iron-phosphate. It is a type of lithium-ion battery that is considered particularly durable, safe and efficient. It does not require nickel or cobalt as raw materials. In its press release, Xpeng barely mentions any specifications of the new energy storage device, except that it should now charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 12 minutes.

A look at the already available Chinese models, however, shows that the new LFP battery in the G6 has a capacity of 68.5 kWh (previously: 66 kWh) or 80.1 kWh (previously: NMC with 87.5 kWh). The 4.89-metre G9 offers batteries with 79 or 93 kWh (previously: 78 kWh or NMC with 98 kWh). A highlight: the maximum charging power for the G6 is 451 kW, while the G9 reaches even 530 kW (again in Chinese configuration).

Previously, the G6 was available with power outputs of 190 and 210 kW. Now it is 218 kW. The power output of the G9 increases from 230 to 258 kW, while the twin-engine G9 Performance increases from 405 to 423 kW.

The exterior of the two Xpeng SUVs is virtually unchanged, although a new body colour 'Stellar Purple' has been added to the G6 palette (pictured above). But inside is more interesting: more than 60 per cent of the components are new. These include the steering wheel and front fascia with optimised ergonomics. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard equipment in the future. The G9 (pictured below), for its part, gets a large panoramic sunroof and new comfort seats with 10-point massage function.

Orders for the restyled models will start to be taken in the second half of July 2025, with a market launch scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. Pricing has not yet been announced. The G9 is currently available in Germany with prices starting at €56,900, while the G6 costs at least €43,600.
