Russia has presented its modification of the Iranian Shahed-238 drone with a turbojet engine, which has probably already been used in attacks on Kyiv.

Here's What We Know

One of the propaganda Telegram channels published a video of the launch of a kamikaze drone similar to the Iranian Shahed-238. The Russian version is probably called Geranium-3 and is based on imported models, but has already been localised at Russian defence industry enterprises.

Visually, the UAV has a different type of air intake and engine, as well as a presumably reinforced nose. According to some indications, it may have already been used in air attacks on Kyiv. The first mention of such a drone in Russia appeared in February 2025.

Iran officially unveiled the original Shahed-238 in November 2023 at the Ashura exhibition. The drone was presented in three versions: with GPS/inertial navigation, infrared/optical, and possibly with a radar guidance system.

Analysts at The War Zone suggest that the Shahed-238 is based on the TEM Tolue-10 turbojet engine, a copy of the Czech PBS TJ100, which has previously been found on several Iranian missiles. Russia could have installed a different engine adapted to local production conditions, which has already been practiced with previous versions of the Geranium.

According to unofficial statements by the Russian military, the speed of the new drone can reach 800 km/h, but these characteristics remain unconfirmed.
