Although the release of The Witcher 4 is still a long way off, the game has already attracted a lot of attention, especially after the State of Unreal presentation. The developers are aiming to create 'the most ambitious open-world Witcher game ever', but have not revealed many details about the quests so far. Fortunately, narrative director Philipp Weber confirmed that the game will not feature so-called 'fetch quests'.

Here's What We Know

In an interview with GamesRadar, Weber said that the phrase 'We don't do fetch quests' was one of his first comments about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and this rule remains in place for Part 4. He also revealed that each designer on the project contributed 'ten times as many ideas as those that made it into the game'.

The studio is known for tackling heavy topics in their quests (the iconic Blood Baron storyline is one example), but Weber says they don't preach 'easy answers'. 'We don't do it just for show. We do it because there's an interesting question that's worth exploring - not necessarily a question we want to answer, but a question we want to explore and think is worthwhile. I would say that if you're never having these discussions, you're probably not making art,' Weber said philosophically.

'Maybe we need to be brave? To dive deeper? Maybe it's something that can touch people in the wrong way. Are we ready for that?' he continued. 'These are discussions that we are still having, but it's important to have them because otherwise you will never be able to do something like this.

The promise of no 'fetch quests', combined with the emphasis on mature and complex themes that are a hallmark of CD Projekt RED, makes the anticipation for The Witcher 4 all the more eager. It looks like the studio is once again aiming to outdo itself.
