Swedish defence company Saab has announced a strategic cooperation with the US General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. The aim of the joint project is to create a radar detection aircraft based on the MQ-9B SkyGuardian reconnaissance and strike drone.

Here's What We Know

Gagadget previously reported that Saab, together with the German company Helsing, for the first time conducted a simulation of air combat of the Gripen E fighter with an integrated artificial intelligence system Centaur. The innovations of the Swedish company do not stop there. A new joint project with General Atomics involves integrating proven radar sensor technology into a module to be placed on the MQ-9B UAV.

Technical details have not yet been disclosed. Judging by the published official images, radar and related equipment will be installed in suspended containers under the wings of the aircraft.

It is reported that such a reconnaissance drone can be used in a unified system of airspace control and together with warships. Autonomously or as part of a remotely controlled unmanned team. In addition, the new solution will complement Saab's existing range of manned radar detection systems, including GlobalEye.
