An unexpected announcement has come from Microsoft: the company has confirmed the development of the next generation console and shared its far-reaching plans.

Here's What We Know

Xbox president Sarah Bond said in a video message that Microsoft has entered into a strategic partnership with AMD and is using the company's technology to realise its most ambitious ideas, not only for the next-generation Xbox home console, but also for some other gaming devices that are still unknown.

Our goal at Xbox is to let you play the games you want, with the people you want, and where you want. That's why we're investing in our next-generation hardware lineup for consoles, handhelds, PCs, cloud services and beyond.

I'm pleased to announce that we have entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with AMD to co-develop hardware for a range of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles that will be in your home and in your hands.

Together with AMD, we're refining processors to deliver the next generation of graphics innovations that will enable top-tier visual quality and immersive gameplay. We're also committed to enhancing the player experience with artificial intelligence while maintaining backwards compatibility with your current collection of games on Xbox.

We're building a gaming platform that will always be with you, so you can play the games you care about on any device, anywhere, getting an Xbox experience that isn't tied to one shop or one device. That's why we're working closely with the Windows team to make this operating system the number one platform for gaming.

The next generation of Xbox is on its way, and this is just the beginning. We can't wait to show you what's coming next!

There are no more official details about the future of the console, but it is expected to be released in 2027-28, and insider Jez Corden is confident that the Microsoft's new console will get hardware support for all generations of Xbox games: insider shares interesting details about the device games from all generations of Xbox.
