Chevrolet has created the most powerful Corvette ever: 1268 hp and 0 to 96 km/h in 2 seconds.
Chevrolet has presented Corvette ZR1X and it is no longer a sports car, but a real hypercar. The new modification is the most powerful version of the legendary American model in its history.
Here's What We Know
Until now, Corvette buyers had a good choice. The basic Stingray produces about 500 hp. The Z06 version is already 670 hp. And the hybrid E-Ray was the first Corvette with an electric motor and all-wheel drive, making it the fastest in the lineup. But now Chevrolet engineers have decided to combine the brute power of the ZR1 version with the electric assist and all-wheel drive from the E-Ray. The result is the ZR1X.
The heart of the ZR1X is a twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine. On its own, it produces 1,079bhp and 1,123Nm of torque. That would already make it a champion among all its relatives in the model line-up. But that's not all. On the front axle, an electric motor with 189bhp and 200Nm has been installed. As a result, the total power of the system is 1268 hp, which is almost twice as much as the hybrid Corvette E-Ray.
With this power reserve, the ZR1X accelerates from a standstill to 96 km/h (60 mph) in less than 2 seconds, and the quarter mile is quicker than 9 seconds. By comparison, the previous record holder E-Ray accelerates to 96 km/h in 2.5 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds.
The ZR1X has the same battery as the E-Ray, with a capacity of 1.9 kW⋅h. True, the usable capacity has become larger, but Chevrolet does not disclose the exact figures.
The most powerful Corvette has three special modes. Endurance is suitable for long races on the track. Qualifying is for fast time laps. And Push-to-Pass mode gives you access to full power. The brakes have also been beefed up specifically for this kind of power.
ZR1X is available in base version and with ZTK Performance Package. In the second case, the car is tuned even more aggressively and special tyres Michelin Pilot Cup 2R are installed.
Aerodynamic dodging can be ordered separately in the form of Carbon Aero-package. All those spoilers and wings create downforce of up to 544 kilograms. This helps the car actually stick to the road at high speeds.
